In the forwarding
business, the practice of operating an own fleet or a rented means of transport
(railway carriages, road vehicles and containers) has been disseminated
markedly. These vehicles are utilized for transport within the framework of the
owner's own business as well as for leasing to other subjects.
The system NEWSPED developed by the company JERID
has been designed to meet the needs of such companies and has been, thus,
extended by a Utilization module for means of transport. The principal function
of this module is a register of means of transport in a catalogue form. Each
vehicle listed in the catalogue is accomplished with its technical data, rental
information and information on its contingent lease, shipments carried out
within the vehicle, movement history, and a list of cyclical repairs and their
current conditions. By opening the catalogue, we are provided with on-line
information on the facts whether the carriage is available, which logistic
operation is being carried out within the carriage and a reminder on the pending
date of a cyclic repair.
The module is fully integrated into the rest of
the system, especially to the modules Invoicing and Despatch, and it can
generate expected cumulative rental costs for an arbitrary period with the view
of checking the in-coming invoices or creation of conjectural items, etc. Analogically,
cumulative generation of rental ready-to-be-invoiced revenues is supported by
utilizing this module.
There is available a fundamental set of reports
analyzing the economy of renting and leasing the given vehicles. Reports can be
adjusted according to specific requirements of a customer.
Forwarding companies extend their portfolio of
services provided by warehousing services for their customers. The support of
such activities is ensured through a new Warehouses module, which offers basic a
register of warehouses, goods on stock and goods flow with a link to despatch (stock
receipt from a vehicle, stock release onto a vehicle, detecting "goods in
transit" within detection of available goods, etc.).
The Warehouses module generates, in the event
of warehouse movements, appropriate documents - receipt cards, stock release
notes and transfer cards. A one-step or two-step system of stock receipt or
stock release can be applied. It is also possible to pre-set a preferred
strategy of stock release procedure, LIFO, FIFO and random selection.
Further on, the module can be adjusted in terms
of automatic generation of costs and revenues associated with stock operations
where each material in stock has its own individual charges for particular
operations. Costs can be tallied with in-coming invoices and revenues for
warehousing services can be invoiced directly. Again, there is at disposal a
fundamental set of reports - surveys, forms of stock level, stock movements, storing
charges, stock turnover, etc., which can be adjusted according to the specific
requirements of a customer.
The Warehouses module registers only the quantity
flow within a stock and it is assumed that financial flow associated with the
price of material in stock shall be generated in an ancillary accounting
system, if necessary.
